DEGREE PROGRAMS

Types of Associate Degree Programs:

Occupational Degree

Also referred to as "applied" degree programs, an occupational degree program at a two-year college is designed to prepare students to enter the workforce immediately following graduation. The primary function is career preparation, however some courses and/or programs may transfer to 4 year colleges.

Types of Bachelor Degree Programs:

Master’s degrees

Usually requires one to three years of postgraduate or graduate study beyond achieving a bachelor’s degree. The two basic types of masters degrees offered in the U.S. are the Master’s of Arts and Master’s of Science.

PhD degrees and Doctoral programs

The Ph.D, or Doctor of Philosophy, takes an average of four to six years to earn of additional study beyond the master’s level. To get a doctoral degree the graduate student must complete a course of study, do original research and write a publishable thesis or dissertation.

Certification programs

A Certificate of Completion is awarded to indicate the individual has a specific knowledge, skills or abilities from an educational institution. It may be a program of highly focused and advanced academic work concentrating on a specific occupational area. Students already possessing a degree sometimes use certificate programas to acquire more in-depth training.
